Correlation between Situational Awareness and EEG signals

An important aspect in safety–critical domains is Situational Awareness (SA) where operators consolidate data into an understanding of the situation that needs to be updated dynamically as changes over time. Among existing measures SA, only physiological can assess cognitive processes associated with SA real-time. Some studies showed promise detecting states complex tasks using brain signals (e.g. electroencephalogram/EEG). In this paper, analytical methodology proposed identify EEG signatures on various regions brain. A new set from 32 participants completing test PEBL collected a 32-channel dry-EEG headset. The method tested and correlation identified between frequency bands ? (12-30Hz) ? (30-45Hz) SA. Also, activation neurons left right hemisphere parietal temporal lobe observed. These are responsible for visuo-spatial ability memory reasoning tasks. presented results, highest achieved accuracy 67%.
